The underpinnings of non-communicable diseases (NCDs, e.g., type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancers) are intricately woven with the threads of low-grade inflammation and compromised immune health while intersecting with OverWeight and Obesity (OWB). A paramount contributor to NCD burden is the prevalence of unhealthy dietary habits as evidenced by OWB being poised to ensnare over half of the global population by the year 2030.
The origin of NUTRIMMUNE is based on the emerging need for new approaches to treat metabolic disorders (such as type 2 diabetes and obesity), the incidence of which continues to increase in Europe. The objective of the project is to address the need to better understand the interaction between nutrition and the immune system, and to develop personalized nutritional strategies capable of optimizing metabolic health. NUTRIMMUNE brings together academic, clinical and industrial partners from several European countries to carry out this innovative research.
This project is part of the European Innovation Council. The EIC Pathfinder is a flagship program, part of the European framework program Horizon Europe (2021-2027). This program is intended to support high-risk research and exploratory innovation projects with high impact potential.
The EIC Pathfinder is not limited to a specific field, but promotes projects in emerging themes such as:
Stimulate revolutionary ideas:
Promote interdisciplinarity:
Accelerate the scientific transition towards concrete applications: Transform promising scientific discoveries into pioneering technologies.
1. Competitive financing:
2. Calls for projects:
Two main types:
3. Collaborative approach:
Projects must bring together European partners (universities, research centers, SMEs).

Link with NUTRIMMUNE:
The NUTRIMMUNE project, as a participant in the EIC Pathfinder, is probably an exploratory initiative aimed at combining advances in nutrition and immunology to respond to health challenges.
This project benefits from the support and resources of the EIC to transform an innovative idea into a solution with major potential impact.
